True North Sports & Entertainment Limited is the owner of the Manitoba Moose and is the owner, developer, and operator of Winnipeg’s downtown multi-purpose sports and entertainment centre. In 2003, True North acquired the ownership of the Moose hockey franchise to create a single ownership entity for the new facility and the team, which has been the facility's anchor tenant since the building opened in Fall 2004. The President and CEO of True North is Jim Ludlow.

As building owner and developer, True North has completed construction on the 15,000+ seat entertainment, sports, performing arts and community events facility at a prominent address on Portage Avenue in the heart of downtown. The total capital cost was $133.5 million, with the private sector providing $93 million and the public sector $40.5 million toward the capital cost of the facility.

The MTS Centre is seen as the major catalyst in Winnipeg's ongoing business and cultural renaissance that includes new and planned initiatives for sports, tourism, education, business, entertainment and dining in the downtown.

BRINGING THE BEST IDEAS TO WINNIPEG

The distinctive design by Denver, Colorado architects Sink Combs Dethlefs reflects and illuminates Portage Avenue and the surrounding area, bringing new light, life and animation to Winnipeg streets. Its unique architecture combines contemporary glass and steel design with a warm red brick exterior that fits into the fabric of Winnipeg's storied downtown and recalls the tradition of historic Canadian sports edifices like the Montreal Forum and Maple Leaf Gardens.

The design incorporates the features and spectator amenities of the best new- generation entertainment and sports centres built across North America in recent years. It includes a private suite level, rental party suites, an extensive club seat package, quality food outlets, and a Moxie's restaurant. It also features three wide concourses, a Moose sports retail store, ample washrooms and redevelopment of the old Eaton's Powerhouse into the sports pub Tavern United as well as seveal floors of new office space.

The first principles of the design are excellent sight lines from every seat, superb acoustics for concerts and the best ambience and amenities for sports of all kinds - hockey, basketball, curling, arena football, lacrosse, indoor soccer - including international and championship events like World Junior Hockey and the Brier. MTS Centre can accomodate up to 17,000 concert-goers, but can just as easily be curtained down to create an intimate concert entertainment setting for audiences as small as 2,500.

FUTURE OF SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT

The convergence of sports and entertainment, retail and restaurants in one place is designed to create a total visitor experience extending to times before and after the featured event. Four connections to Winnipeg's skywalk system will link the centre to thousands of heated indoor parking stalls and easy access to and from the facility.

The MTS Centre is Canada's newest major market sports and entertainment centre. It provides an exciting lineup of entertainment and sports events designed to energize and inspire more than 800,000 fans to visit the city's downtown every year to embrace and utilize the community's newest landmark and source of civic pride.
